Trigyn has a contractual opportunity for a Microwave Communication Technician. This resource will be working from the client site in Haiti.

Job Description:

The Microwave Communication Technician is responsible for installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting the full range of equipment and antennas associated with microwave services (PTP and PTMP). The technician must be proficient with network monitoring, performance analysis, and control hardware/software tools.

Note: This position will be deployed in a conflict zone (Haiti) under client operational conditions. Personnel must be prepared to work in austere environments with heightened security risks, limited infrastructure, and strict security protocols.

II. Equipment Scope
The staff will install, operate, and maintain, including but not limited to:
• Full range of Radwin, Ericsson, and Aviat systems operating in multiple frequency bands.
• Associated indoor and outdoor units (IDU/ODU), antennas, feeders, and power systems.

III. Technical Knowledge
Working knowledge of:
• Reading and interpreting link plans: azimuths, tilt, heights, and path profiles.
• Fundamental microwave link design concepts, including:
o Fade margin
o Availability targets (e.g., 99.99%)
o Rain attenuation and environmental impacts, especially at higher frequencies
• Use of test equipment, including: Spectrum Analyzer, Power/Frequency Counter, BER tester, and Data Communications Test Set.
• Video conferencing equipment and related network/AV interfaces.
• Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and associated online power systems.

IV. Duties
The technician will perform, but not be limited to, the following duties:
• Microwave system installations, including:
o Tower/rooftop work practices in accordance with safety standards
o Mounting and precise alignment of antennas to specification
o Cabling:
– Coax/waveguide routing and termination
– DC power cabling and distribution
– Proper grounding and surge protection (earthing, bonding, lightning arrestors)
o Performing and documenting:
– RSSI/SNR and link performance checks
– Service activation and commissioning tests
– Formal acceptance tests and reporting
• Installation and termination of all required cabling, including ODU, power supply, and INU/IDU interconnections, and integration of the microwave network with other data terminal equipment.
• On an as-and-when-required basis, communications mast/tower rigging (MANDATORY: valid Rigging Certificate required for safety compliance under conflict zone conditions).
• Bench testing of systems and modules to verify serviceability and ensure adequate, tested spares are available.
• Assisting the Chief Operations Officer (or designated engineering lead) with frequency deconfliction, interference mitigation, and network planning to achieve maximum spectrum and network efficiency.
• Performing preventive and corrective maintenance for microwave systems, including masts/towers and associated infrastructure, to ensure continuous connectivity and high availability.
• Participating in a standby/on-call roster as a Technician to support after-hours and emergency interventions as required.

V. Networking Skills
Enhanced requirements:
• Strong understanding of network integration for hybrid microwave systems, including IP-based routing and QoS for voice, video, and data.
• Ability to configure and troubleshoot network devices supporting microwave connectivity (primarily Ethernet switches and associated interfaces).
• Familiarity with VPNs, encryption standards, and cybersecurity best practices for securing traffic over microwave backhaul links.

VI. Experience & Certification
• Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience with microwave communication systems, including installation, alignment, and maintenance.
• Relevant Technical College Certificates or equivalent professional qualifications in telecommunications, electronics, or related fields.
• Rigging Certificate (required due to mast/tower rigging tasks and safety standards).
• Prior experience working in conflict zones or other high-risk/remote environments is highly desirable.
• Valid national driver’s license for light motor vehicles and demonstrated ability to operate 4x4 manual transmission vehicles (to be verified in the mission area).

VII. Language
• Fluency in English, both written and oral, is required.
• Fluency or working knowledge of French or Spanish is highly desirable as an additional language.
