Job Description:
The Geospatial Frontend Specialist shall support the client project “Just transitions in vulnerable places – digital solutions for climate resilient informal areas and climate smart urban recovery of communities affected by crisis” in their efforts to developing map-based web applications and urban data platforms for evidence-based and participatory decision making in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda, focusing on communities in Ukraine.
Scope of Work:
- Design and develop user interfaces for web applications focused on urban development and decision-making processes.
- Implement interactive data visualization tools to display spatial and statistical data, such as maps, charts, and graphs.
- Ensure accessibility and usability of the applications for a diverse range of users, including urban planners, policy makers, stakeholders, and the public.
- Collaborate with backend developers to integrate various types of urban data, including spatial, statistical, and citizen-generated data.
- Optimize applications for low bandwidth and offline use while ensuring data security and privacy.
- Stay updated with emerging trends in Geospatial front-end development, technology, innovation, and urban planning to continually enhance application functionality.
- Test and debug applications to ensure smooth operation across various platforms and devices.
Competencies:
Bachelor's or higher degree, in Computer Science or a directly related field or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in frontend development, with a strong portfolio around Geospatial use cases and projects.
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Hands-on experience with using and customizing CKAN for building Data catalogue systems.
- Experience with one frontend framework and libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js), React preferred.
- Experience with data visualisation libraries (e.g., D3.js, Leaflet.js, Deck.gl) and integrating mapping services (e.g., OpenLayers, GeoServer).
- Familiarity with responsive and adaptive design principles.
- Knowledge of GIS and spatial data manipulation.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an interest in finding technical and innovative solutions for urban development issues.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, contributing to an agile development process and interacting with backend developers, data scientists, and other team members.
